Karst leads Lady Bears to win over 14th Region’s top team

Harlan County guard Ella Karst went up for two of her 27 points on Thursday in the Lady Bears’ 63-55 win over Leslie County.

Led by a strong all-around game from junior guard Ella Karst, Harlan County knocked off Leslie County for the second time this season. Karst scored 27 points and helped limit Leslie star Courtney Hoskins to 11 in the Lady Bears’ 63-55 victory on Thursday.
Leslie and Hoskins were ranked as the top team and player, respectively, in the 14th Region in the preseason by the Cats Pause and brought a 13-4 record into Thursday’s game, but HCHS took a 16-14 lead after one quarter and stayed ahead at the end of each period.
Emma Napier scored 20 points to lead the Lady Eagles, followed by Hoskins with 11 and Iris Napier with 10

Harlan County evened its record at 6-6 in junior varsity action with a 31-30 win over Leslie County.
Freshman guard Cheyenne Rhymer scored 11 to lead the Lady Bears. Savannah Hill tossed in six. Maddi Middleton and Whitley Teague added five each. Whitney Noe scored three. Lacey Robinson chipped in with one.
Kylee Lewis and Bella Lewis scored 10 each to lead Leslie County.
Harlan County rolled to a 39-15 win over Lynn Camp in previously unreported action. Rhymer scored seven while Middleton, Noe and Kylee Runions added six each. Whitley Teague and Alley Stewart scored four each. Robinson and Addy Gray added three each.
Julie Moore and Madison Weymers scored four each to pace Lynn Camp.
HCHS fell 32-26 to Hazard as Maddie Rohnapfel scored eight to lead the Lady Dogs.
Rhymer and Teague each scored seven to lead the Lady Bears. Middleton and Jaylee Cochran added four each. Hill and Robinson chipped in with two each.
Rhymer scored 12 in a 36-20 win at Lee, Va. Robinson and Teague tossed in seven and five points, respectively. Middleton and Lauren Lewis added four each. Hill and Cochran scored two each.
Hughes and Huff scored eight each to lead Lee.
