Harlan teams place third in Leslie County meet

Harlan’s Harper Carmical placed second in the 3,200-meter run on Wednesday at Leslie County.

The Harlan track team went to Leslie County to compete in a meet on Wednesday. Both boys and girls placed third overall.

To lead the Dragons, Dylan Cox was first the 3,200-meter run and second in the 1,600-meter run. Nate Montanaro placed first in high jump, third in the 400-meter dash and third in the 110-meter hurdles.

Tayquan Vick finished second in the 300-meter hurdles.

Ethan Shuler was second in high jump and third in long jump.

Trenton Childers placed third in shot put.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team finished third.

Harper Carmical led the Lady Dragons, placing second in the 3,200-meter run.

Emma Owens was sixth in the 100-meter dash.

Abbie Jones finished sixth in the 400-meter dash.

Mia Pace placed eighth in the 800-meter run.

Julianna Damaa finished fifth in the 1,600-meter run.

Emma Owens was third in triple jump.

Asia Young placed third in shot put.

Tess Bryson was fifth in discus.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team finished third.

“We had an impressive outing Wednesday night. Montanaro did very good this meet, finishing in the top three in three events. Also, our 4 x 4 girls are slowly coming together,” Harlan coach Trent McKenzie said. “The coaching staff has seen a huge jump in Vick this year with it being his first year running. Each meet is a hard practice till region. We’re looking better each meet.”

Harlan’s next meet will be Saturday at Middlesboro.
