Green Dragons bounce back with rout at Lynn Camp

Harlan’s Jaedyn Gist scored six runs Thursday with two hits and four walks in the Green Dragons’ 26-4 victory.

Two nights after being unable to hang on to a 5-1 lead against Barbourville, the Harlan Green Dragons built a lead Thursday at Lynn Camp that was beyond reach. Harlan scored in all five innings on the way to a 26-4 rout of the Wildcats.
“It’s always good to bounce back and get a win,” Harlan coach Lee Freyer said. “We talked earlier about my 5 Cs, and we have to learn to be consistent and come out with the same level of energy and focus every game. “
Brody Owens, Luke Luttrell. Nate Montanaro and Jared Moore teamed on a one-hitter. Owens struck out three and walked three and gave up three runs (one earned) in one inning. Luttrell fanned five and walked none in two hitless innings. Montanaro gave up one one run and two walks. Moore struck out five and walked one as he also pitched two hitless innings.
“We combined on a one-hitter, and it was the lead-off batter of the game. That’s impressive as we threw a freshman, eighth grader and two sophomores. Luke came in and pitched well,” Freyer said. “We have to put this one behind us now and get ready for Monday against Jackson County.”
Donovan Montanaro led the Dragons on offense with a double and two singles for five RBI. Baylor Varner added three singles. Jaedyn Gist scored six runs on two singles and four walks. Aiden Johnson, Brody Owens, Eli Freyer and Nate Montanaro added two singles each. Jared Moore and Chris Rouse had one single each.
“We hit the ball pretty well tonight. Donovan found some barrels and made solid contact. Seven of nine starters had multiple hits, and that’s good to see. We only struck out once, so we will take that,” Freyer said. “We only had one error tonight as a team. I thought Eli (Freyer) had a really nice scoop at first on a low throw.”
Ian Agosto had the only hit for Lynn Camp.
The 2-2 Dragons return to action Monday at home against Jackson County in the first round of the 13th Region All “A” Classic. The 1-3 Wildcats travel to McCreary Central on Saturday.
