HCHS takes control late as Blair shuts out Lady Panthers

Harlan County’s Madison Blair, pictured in action earlier this season, shut out Knox Central on Thursday in a 5-0 win.

 

Madison Blair held Knox Central scoreless on Thursday and waited for the HCHS offense to come alive in a 5-0 win. Blair struck out six and walked one in the complete-game effort.
Harlan County broke up a scoreless tie with two runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh.
“We never allowed the score to make us nervous throughout the game,” Harlan County coach Shelby Burton said. “The girls maintained their focus and pulled out a very nice win.”
Jade Burton led the HCHS offense with three hits. Halanah Shepherd added a double and single for two RBI. Hailey Austin had a triple. Jenna Wilson contributed a double. Blair, Lesleigh Brown and Akira Lee had singles.
Hannah Melton led the Lady Panthers with a triple and two singles. Zoey Hamilton and Jayme Swafford one single each.
Savannah Tucker pitched a complete game, giving up 11 hits while striking out two and walking three,
Harlan County played without junior shortstop Brittleigh Estep due to illness.
The 9-9 Lady Bears play at Pineville on Friday. The 5-7 Lady Panthers play at Pineville on Monday.
