Harlan County Future place second in Southwest Sizzler

Harlan County Future, a local 10-and-under team, finished second in the Southwest Sizzler tournament over the weekend in Wise, Va., winning four of six games.
Bella Ford had two singles and scored two runs to lead Harlan County Future in a 7-3 win over Thunder in pool play. Natalie Creech, Maddy Barrett, Andrea Napier, Aniston Burton and Campbell Thompson scored one run each.
Thomas started in the circle with one strikeout and three walks. Barrett struck out two and walked one in one inning.
Thompson and Zoey Reed had hits in Harlan County Future’s 5-4 tournament win over the Wolfpack. Burton, Ford, Emily Allen, Reed and Thompson scored runs.
Thompson struck out five and walked six while giving up one hit. Burton closed the game by striking out two and walking two while giving up no hits.
Harlan County Future edged Lady Liberty 5-4 in a second tournament game as Thompson singled twice and Ford had a triple. Allen added a double. Barrett had a single. Thompson scored two runs, while Burton, Ford and Barrett scored one each.
Burton pitched a complete game, giving up four hits while striking out 10 and walking two.
Another complete game by Burton included seven strikeouts and four walks with only two hits surrendered, but Harlan County Future dropped a 3-2 pitchers’ duel against the Heartbreakers. Thompson, Ford and Andrea Napier had one single each.
Thompson pitched a five-hitter with three strikeouts and five walks as Harlan County Future edged Lady Liberty 4-3. Thompson also led the offense with two singles. Ford had a triple and Barrett doubled. Napier singled once.
Harlan County Future fell 9-3 to the Heartbreakers in the championship game. Ford led Harlan County Future with a double and single. Creech and Barrett addd singles. Ford, Reed and Creech scored runs.
Burton struck out one and walked one in one inning. Thompson gave up three hits and six walks. Barrett recored the final two outs without giving up a hit.
