Caldwell drives home winning run as Harlan edges Knox, advances to finals

In a 12-3 victory over Pineville/Bell in the first round of the District 4 Tournament (east division) on Thursday, the Harlan All-Stars (ages 11-12) showed they know how to win.
In a 2-1 win over Knox County in the semifinals on Friday, the Harlan All-Stars showed they know how to win close games.
Harlan won in dramatic, walk-off fashion as Carter Caldwell ripped a hit to the fence in right to drive home Gabriel Helton with the winning run.
Knox led 1-0 through four innings before Harlan pulled even when Brantley McArthur walked and scored on Nate Thomas’ hit.
Cooper Thomas, Brantley Burkhart, Thomas, Helton and Carter had singles for Harlan.
Helton pitched three solid innings as the starter, giving up one run. Jackson Mackowiak shut out Knox County over the final three innings, striking out four, to earn the win.
Harlan will play Hazard on Sunday at 2 p.m. for the east division title.
