Defenses dominated as Harlan and Harlan County met Monday in a junior varsity football scrimmage at Coal Miners Memorial Stadium on the HCHS campus. The Dragons and Bears played to a 6-6 tie in one half of football.
Harlan threatened first as Jonah Sharp and Eden Caudill each had runs to get the Dragons inside the 10 before Harlan County’s Jayce Brown intercepted a pass at the end zone and returned it 40 yards.
Harlan County had its chance to score after two long runs by Shemar Carr, but Harlan’s Jaxson Perry punched the ball out from behind on the second run and recovered to end the threat.
After stopping the Dragons on downs, HC gave the ball back as Sharp recovered a fumbled snap and took the ball 20 yards for a touchdown.
Brown, Hunter Napier and Carr each had nice runs as the Bears quickly moved the ball down the field before pulling even on Carr’s 2-yard TD run.
