Harlan County ran its win streak to four in eighth-grade football action with a 36-14 win over visiting Clay County.
Brayden Morris had another big game for the 4-1 Bears with 187 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 12 carries.
Clay scored first, but Brady Smith quickly answered for the Bears with a touchdown on the kickoff return. Morris added the two-point conversion.
Morris put the Bears ahead with a 50-yard touchdown run on the next HC drive. Sam Carr made it 16-8 with the two-point conversion.
Braydon Howard teamed with Morris for a 40-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Howard found Thyler Coots for the two-point conversion to make the score 24-8.
After Clay scored, Smith again answered for the Bears with a 5-yard TD run to make the score 30-14.
The Bears stopped a long Clay drive in the third quarter, then Morris went 70 yards for a touchdown to close the scoring.
Smith added 28 yards rushing on three carries, and Carr picked up seven yards on three carries. Howard completed all three passing attempts with one each to Morris, Coots and Smith.
Clay County edged the Bears 8-6 in the seventh-grade game.
Preston Amburgey scored on a 3-yard run for the Bears after Carson Farley picked up yardage on several carries. The two-point attempt was not successful.
Jackson Mackowiak completed four of eight passes for 30 yards.
“Our B team continues to improve but has to be more consistent. Our A team played a physical Clay team and came out with another big conference win,” Harlan County coach Scott Caldwell said. “Our A team backfield of Smith, Carr and Morris could be the best trio in the league. Our O-line continues to improve and our defense is getting stops. However, we are only as good as our next game and will face a huge task at Rock next Thursday.”
Harlan County returns to action Thursday at Rockcastle County.
