Darius Akal ran for three touchdowns and 105 yards on 19 carries as Harlan broke a six-game losing streak and stayed alive for second place in District 7 with a 32-25 win Friday at Lynn Camp.
Lynn Camp took a 19-16 lead in the third quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run by quarterback D.J. Wren, but the Dragons answered with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Akal scored on runs of 2 and 10 yards.
Akal gave Harlan an early lead with a 5-yard TD run followed by a two-point conversion pass from Baylor Varner to Donovan Montanaro.
Wren teamed with Ethan Burd for a 21-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 8-6.
A 2-yard touchdown run by Wren put the Wildcats on top with 34 seconds left in the half, but Harlan answered when Varner and Montanaro teamed to a 30-yard touchdown. Akal’s two-point conversion put the Dragons ahead 16-12 at the half.
Wren’s touchdown gave Lynn Camp its last lead before Akal took control. Varner and Eden Caudill added two-point conversion runs.
Wren’s 1-yard run closed the scoring.
Noah Kirby and Donovan Montanaro led the Harlan defense with 11 tackles each. Peyton Thompson added eight tackles, while Akal contributed seven.
The 2-6 Wildcats will play host to Pineville on Friday and would take fourth place with a win. Harlan will play host to Williamsburg on Friday with an opportunity to force a tie for second place in District 7 with a win.
