
Three weeks after a three-set loss at Hazard, the Harlan Lady Dragons were much more competitive in the rematch Saturday to close the regular season.
Hazard overcame a loss in the first set to claim a 21-25, 25-8, 25-10, 25-10 victory to improve to 20-10 on the season.
Reagan Chaney led the 20-10 Lady Dogs with 16 kills. Miley Gadbury led in aces with seven, along with five assists. Mallory Mitchell had 15 assists and four digs.
Annie Hoskins led the Lady Dragons with eight kills, nine digs, four blocks and two assists. Kendyll Blanton had 18 digs and one kill. Ava Nunez added 16 digs, four assists, two aces and one kill. Mallory McNiel contributed 16 digs and two assists. Taylor Hall had 12 digs, five assists, one ace and one kill. Kaylee Roark added eight digs and six assists. Tess Bryson and Halle Cox each added seven digs and one assist each.
Two aces by Nunez helped Harlan take control in the first set. A Hoskins kill sparked a 10-6 run to close the set.
Harlan fell to 3-20 on the season heading into a matchup against Harlan County on Monday in the 52nd District Tournament.

Harlan fell 25-10, 25-7 on Thursday at Williamsburg.
Williamsburg is 6-2 during its last eight matches and possesses a 19-15 record after its win over the Lady Dragons.
McNiel led Harlan with 14 digs and one assist. Blanton had 11 digs, two assists and one kill. Nunez added 11 digs and two assists. Hall added 10 digs and one assist. Hoskins contribute eight digs, four kills and two assists. Bryson added nine digs and one assist.

Whitley County improved to 29-2 on the season with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-19 win over visiting Harlan County on Thursday.
The Lady Colonels finished regular season play with a 13-game win streak while posting a perfect 15-0 mark against 13th Region opponents.
Savannah Hill led the Lady Bears with 11 digs and nine assists. Kalista Dunn had 11 digs, six kills and one assist. Kylee Hoiska added seven digs, one ace, four kills and one block. Ashton Evans contributed eight digs, two kills and one assist. Destiny Cornett had six digs and two kills. Lesleigh Brown added three digs and one ace. Ashlynn Williamson chipped in with two digs.
Harlan County returns to action Monday at home against Harlan in the 52nd District Tournament.
