The Pineville Mountain Lions evened their record at 1-1 with a 72-39 victory over visiting Cumberland Gap on Thursday night.
The Lions placed three players in double figures, led by junior guard Sawyer Thompson’s 21 points. Senior center Sam Caldwell added 12 points and senior guard Logunn Littles added 11.
Senior guard Wyatt Caldwell hit three threes in a nine-point effort. Junior wing Ashton Moser contributed eight.
Cumberland Gap (3-1) was led by Brady Harris and Kolton Goins with nine points each.
The Lions broke open a 38-24 halftime lead to 68-30 at the end of the third stanza on the strength of a 30-6 run to coast to the victory.
Pineville will travel to Great Crossing High School to play Scott County on Saturday afternoon at 2:15.

Roark scores 27 as Clay wins 13th Region showdown at Pineville
In a matchup of two of the 13th Region’s top ten squads, the Clay County Tigers defeated the Pineville Mountain Lions 85-68 Tuesday night in Pineville.
The Tigers (1-0) were led by Jerod Roark’s 27 points. Elijah Bundy added 18. Landon Dezarn and Hayden Harris tossed in 11 points a piece.
The Mountain Lions (0-1) were led by Sawyer Thompson’s 32 points. Ashton Moser scored 18. Kaiden Robbins and Logunn Littles added eight.
The game was a see-saw affair early with both teams trading blows and scoring runs. Clay led after the first quarter 21-15 and at the half 36-32.
The Tigers increased their advantage to 56-47 after three quarters and outscored the Lions
29-21 in the final stanza to close the game.
Pineville will continue its opening homestand against Cumberland Gap in a boys/girls doubleheader Thursday night. The boys tip is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
