The Pineville Mountain Lions overcame multiple deficits to beat 11th Region power Scott County 72-68 in overtime as part of the Jersey Mike’s Classic at Great Crossing High School in Georgetown.
The 2-1 Lions railed most of the game but continued to chip into the Cardinal lead, eventually getting a lead of their own at 59-56 with seconds remaining in regulation before Scott’s Tristian Christopher hit a corner three as time ran out to knot the score at 59 to force overtime.
In overtime, the Lions established control of the game behind a big three of their own by senior guard Wyatt Caldwell, a couple of big free throws by junior forward Zander Garrison, free throws from junior guards Sawyer Thompson and Ashton Moser, and a nice basket by senior center Sam Caldwell.
The Lions outscored the Cardinals 13-9 in overtime.
Scott led early 18-5, but the Lions continued to battle, out scoring the Cards (1-2) 19-14 in the second quarter and 16-14 in the third quarter to keep the game close.
