Mackenzie King Varner secured her first win as the Harlan coach in much the same way she often did as a Harlan player. The Lady Dragons raced to a 29-7 lead after one quarter and coasted from there on the way to an 80-32 rout of visiting Williamsburg.
After losses to 14th Region rivals Leslie County and Letcher Central to open the season on the road, the Lady Dragons earned their first win in their home opener as their big three of Kylie Noe, Aymanni Wynn and Emma Owens teamed for 51 points with Noe scoring 19, Wynn adding 17 and Owens contributing 15. Addison Jackson posted a career high with 14 to give Harlan four in double figures.
Allie Wilson led Williamsburg with 13 points.
Harlan (1-2) returns to action Friday at home against Middlesboro in a girls/boys doubleheader.

Harlan coasted to a 37-17 junior varsity victory as Addison Campbell scored nine to lead the 1-2 Lady Dragons. Reagan Goodman added eight points, followed by Shelby Doan with seven, Gracie Hensley with four and Peyshaunce Wynn, Abbie Elliott and Annie Hoskins with three each.
Ellie Breeding and Bailiee Hill each scored seven for Williamsburg. Abby Moses and Grace Meddles added two and one points, respectively.
