Down by nine at halftime and six after three quarters, Whitley County overcame a sluggish first half to rally for a 62-55 win Tuesday over visiting Middlesbro.
Freshman guard Evan Ellis poured in 31 points, including 24 in the second half, to lead the 4-1 Colonels. Bryson Mahan and Jackson Petrey each scored nine points.
Junior guard Jerimah Beck scored 22 to lead the Jackets, who suffered their first loss in four games. Senior forwards Trey King and Bryce Bowling added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Middlesboro will play at Harlan on Friday in a girls/boys doubleheader.
