BRISTOL, Tenn. – Former Harlan High School standout Jordan Akal has been named the Conference Carolinas defensive player of the week, the first time in his career he has earned a weekly award from the conference office.
Akal, a sophomore, averaged two steals, two rebounds and 11.5 points per game for the Tornado. Monday in a nonconference game at Johnson & Wales University, he had eight points, a steal and four rebounds, three of which came on the defensive glass. Saturday at Young Harris College, he scored 15 points with a season-high three steals.
On the season, Akal has 13 steals, with four multi-steal games. He is also averaging 11 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
The Tornado will be back in action Wednesday night for a Conference Carolinas matchup at Southern Wesleyan University.
