The Pineville Lady and Mountain Lions jumped to commanding leads early to sweep a pair of district wins Friday night at Lynn Camp.
With the victories, both squads move to 2-0 in district play ahead of matchups with Knox Central on Tuesday night in the Gem City . The Panthers also enter the game 2-0 in the 51st District.
In the early matchup, the Lady Lions jumped out to a 37-9 lead in the first half to cruise to a 52-19 victory over the Lady Cats.
Nadine Johnson poured in 28 points to lead the 13-2 Lady Lions. Ava Arnett also had a big game, scoring 15 in the winning effort.
Lauren Partin led Lynn Camp (2-15) with 11 points.
The boys’ matchup was much of the same with the Lions taking a 41-29 lead into the locker room and outscoring the Wildcats 42-26 in the second half to win going away 83-56.
Pineville (12-5) got a balanced scoring effort, placing four starters in double figures. Junior guard Ashton Moser led the squad with 25 points. Sawyer Thompson added 22 to the Lions attack. Sam Caldwell had a big night with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Logunn Littles continued his strong recent play, scoring 14 points.
Lynn Camp was led by guard Tate Mills, who led all scorers with 26 points. Ethan Burd and Caleb Woods added 10 points each for the 4-12 Wildcats.
The top seed in the 51st District tournament will be decided Tuesday night in the Lions’ Den for both Pineville squads against the Panthers. Game times are set for 6 pm for the girls with the boys following at 7:30.
