Harlan raced to a 6-1 lead through four innings and coasted to a 7-4 win Saturday over visiting Floyd Central.
Brody Owens led the Dragons’ six-hit attack with three singles. Jake Brewer added two hits. Luke Luttrell added one hit.
Luttrell earned the win as he gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in 4 1/3 innings. Owens allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit with four walks and no strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Aiden Johnson recorded one out before turning the game over to Baylor Varner in the seventh. Varner earned the save as he gave up one hit with one strikeout and one walk in one inning.
“It was a goood team win today. Everyone was dialed in from the opening pitch. I thought we brought good energy,” Harlan coach Lee Freyer said. “It was another good day for our pitchers. Luke Luttrell came out and set the tone early. He commanded the zone well and was getting ahead of batters. When his off speed stuff is working it makes his fastball that much more difficult to hit.
“The bottom of our lineup today really put in work. We have been putting the ball in play pretty consistently so far this season. It’s good to see guys who put in extra reps seeing results, including Brody Owens and Jake Brewer today.”
Harlan (3-0) will play host to Hazard on Tuesday.
