Harlan County exploded for seven runs in the second inning, and junior right-hander Alex Creech was able to make it hold up as the Bears held off visiting Perry Central 8-6 on Tuesday.
Creech struck out five and walked one while giving up two earned runs on nine hits to win for the fourth time in five decisions.
Tristan Cooper, coming off a dominating mound effort Friday at Clay County, pounded out two doubles and a single to lead an 11-hit HCHS offensive attack. Chance Sturgill and Aiden Craig added two hits each from the bottom two spots in the order. Mason Himes also added two hits, while Creech and Will Cassim added one each.
Senior third baseman Tanner Perkins led the 18-9 Commodores with four hits in four at bats. Dylan Elkins added two hits.
Jayden Willis suffered the loss as he gave up seven runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. Parker Maggard allowed one unearned run on four hits in 3 2/3 innings.
The 14-12 Bears play host to Pineville on Thursday.
