The Corbin Lady Hounds scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie to defeat the Pineville Lady Lions 4-3 in the opening round of the 13th Region Softball Tournament at Lynn Camp Tuesday night.
The Hounds held a 3-0 advantage going into the top of the third inning before Pineville catcher Addison Slone broke the tie by launching a three-run homer to knot the score.
Pineville hurler Rachel Howard and Corbin pitcher Danni Foley traded pitches all night and had strikingly similar stat lines. Howard gave up four runs on seven hits, striking out 13 and walking two. Foley gave up three runs on nine Pineville hits and struck out 14 with no walks.
Pineville (14-8) was led at the plate by Nadine Johnson, Baileigh Bargo, Monica Whitehead, and Howard with two hits each. Slone added one hit.
Corbin will advance to play North Laurel in the region semifinals Wednesday evening. South Laurel will face Jackson County in the other semifinal.
Pineville will enter the 2025 season as a regional favorite, with only one senior graduating in Johnson.
