Coming off one of the best seasons in school history last fall, the Harlan County Lady Bears picked up right where they left off in 2024 with a 25-9, 25-15 win Monday over visiting South Laurel.
It was reportedly the first win in school history for HCHS against South Laurel after five previous losses.
“I’m really proud of our girls. We have worked really hard this summer to get ready for a tough schedule. The girls had a great game and they were playing really well together. They were having so much fun,” HCHS coach Cathy York said. “They played really good defense. We’ve been working on that and it’s starting to show. We also did great at serving, which is key.”
The 1-0 Lady Bears will play host to Barbourville on Tuesday and Leslie County on Thursday.
