Making their debut in the 2A Classic (for schools with approximately 600 to 1,000 students), the Harlan County Black Bears sent two golfers to state competition and placed second as a team in the regional tournament at the Wasioto Winds course in PIneville on Thursday.
Brayden Casolari, a junior who has won the last two Pine Mountain Golf Conference titles, shot a two-over par 74 to finish second behind Rockcastle County’s Brody Hodges. Harlan County sophomore Cole Cornett tied for third with a 76. Bell County’s Logan Stepp placed eighth. Harlan County’s Alex Creech shot an 89 and Zayden Casolari finished with a 91.
Harlan County was second in boys team competition with a 330, 13 strokes behind Clay County.
Haile Hensley, a HCHS sophomore, also qualified for state competition as she shot a 104 to finish second behind Corbin’s Makena Myatt. Whitley County’s Kim Hudson also qualified for state competition with a 113.
The 2A state tournament will be played in Owensboro on Sept. 9.
