With the Harlan County Black Bears comfortably ahead in the team competition on Tuesday in a Pine Mountain Conference match at the Harlan Country Club, a battle within the battle emerged with Cole Cornett and Brayden Casolari competing for medalist honors.
Casolari birdied four straight holes to rally for a three-stroke win as he shot a four-under 30. Alex Creech was third for the Bears with a 35, followed by Zayden Casolari with a 38 and Carson Clark with a 43.
Bell County finished second in the team standings and was led by Gunnar Same with a 39 and both Jackson Walters and Austin Goodin shot 39,. Logan Stepp finished with a 45, and Cooper Miracle had a 47.
Corbin was third with a 185, followed by Barbourville with 194 and Harlan with 218. Brody Owens led the Dragons with a 48, followed by Carson Osborne with a 52 and both Caiden Jackson and Izaiah Lefevers with scores of 59.
The next conference match is set for Sept. 5 in Barbourville.
