A 28-point explosion in the second quarter blew the game open as Lawrence County took a big halftime lead on the way to a 35-14 win Friday over visiting Harlan County.
Junior quarterback Luke Fetherholf passed for three touchdowns and ran for one as the Bulldogs improved to 3-1 on the season.
HCHS got off to a good start on offense with a 27-yard run by Gage Bailey on the Bears’ first offensive play, but Bailey went out with an ankle injury and the Harlan County offense fell silent the remainder of the half.
With a running clock in the second half, HCHS had two long drives that ended with touchdown runs by Luke Kelly. Jayce Brown hit a pair of extra points.
The Bulldogs were limited to only four offensive plays in the second half after putting together five scoring drives in the first half.
Harlan County (1-3) will play host to defending Class A state champ Pikeville on Friday in a game added when Clay County canceled on last week’s scheduled game due to concerns about the shooting incident in London.
