In a rematch from last year’s state championship game, Lyon County knocked off Harlan County again with a 79-71 victory Saturday in the preseason Zip Zone Classic at Martin County High School.
Junior guard Bray Kirk scored 23 points to lead the Lyons. Sophomore guard Nolan Coffman added 14 points.
Senior guard Maddox Huff led the Bears with 29 points. Junior guard Reggie Cottrell tossed in 16.
Lyon led 19-18 after one quarter, but Harlan County moved out to a 37-32 halftime lead as Huff and Brody Napier each scored six points in the period and Jaycee Carter added four.
The lead grew to 57-51 after three periods as Huff and Cottrell each scored six points.
Lyon dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bears 28-14 with 11 baskets compared to only four by HCHS. Kirk scored nine points and Carson Collins added seven for the Lyons.
Harlan County opens its regular season schedule Monday at Oneida Baptist, taking on Perry Central at 7:30 in the Larry Gritton Sr. Classic.
