From a 38-point loss Monday against Knox Central, to a 13-point loss Thursday at Leslie County and then a five-point loss Friday at Corbin, the Harlan County Lady Bears are quickly learning what it takes to be a competitive
Harlan County almost pulled off an upset in their third game, taking a late lead against Corbin before falling 63-58.
The Lady Hounds led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and 28-22 at halftime. Corbin led 45-42 at the end of the third quarter before holding on in the fourth period despite HCHS knocking down four 3-pointers.
The duo of Kylie Clem and Raegan Walker combined to score 46 points to lead Corbin as Clem had 26 and Walker added 20.
Kyler Runions led Harlan County with 25 points while hitting 10-of-11 shot attempts from the free-throw line while Jaylee Cochran hit five 3-pointers and finished with 18 points.
Harlan County will play host to Pineville on Friday.

Harlan County improved to 2-1 in junior varsity action with a 31-28 win as Kenadee Sturgill led the Lady Bears with 12 points on four 3-pointers. Raegan Landa scored nine. Jaycee Simpson added six. Taylynn Napier and Lauren Lewis chipped in with two each.
Mobley led Corbin with eight points. Lester scored six, followed by Creech with five, Stewart with four, Hatfield with three and Creech with two.

Led by junior guards Ava Napier and Hayley Smith with 16 and 15 points, respectively, Leslie County defeated the visiting Lady Bears 50-37 on Thursday.
Reagan Clem and Kylee Runions scored eight each to lead Harlan County.

Harlan County evened its junior varsity record at 1-1 with a 47-35 victory over the Lady Eagles.
Taylynn Napier led the Lady Bears with 12 points. Lauren Lewis scored nine, and Raegan Landa tossed in eight. Jaycee Simpson and Kenadee Sturgill added six each. Kelsie Middleton and Jayla Dillman scored three each.
Sam Gray scored 10 and Madisyn Farler added eight for the Lady Eagles. Madi Jones tossed in six, followed by Kennedy Farler with four, Lily Slusher with three, Kenley Napier with two and Madison Debord with one.
