It was a night of thrillers Thursday in the semifinals of the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
The Trojans edged Evarts 28-27 as Brantley Burkhart rebounded a missed free throw and hit the game-winning shot with two seconds left.
Logan Mills scored nine points and Seth Johnson added eight to lead JACES.
Rayce Bryant scored 11 and Aiden Napier added 10 for the Wildcats.
Wallins edged Cawood 23-22 as Sam Carmical sealed the win with a rebound with two seconds to play after Cawood’s Kaydon Bray missed the potential game-tying free throw after hitting the first two shots. He drew a foul on a 3-point attempt.
Leland Cope scored 13 points to pace the Purple Devils.
Gray led Cawood with 10 points,
The consolation and championship games are set for Saturday at Harlan County High School.
