The Harlan County tennis team picked up where they left off a year ago, opening the season with a pair of victories — over Williamsburg on Tuesday and at home against PIneville on Thursday.
HCHS downed Williamsburg 8-1 in boys action and 7-2 on the girls side. Harlan County downed Pineville 3-0 in boys action and 9-0 in the girls match.
“What a great first week of tennis for our boys and girls. Both squads have been putting in work this offseason and into the start of practice, and it’s showing,” Harlan County coach Caleb Bailey said. “I am excited to see where our story ends this season. Our leaders and veterans are paving the way and their level is improving. We have some talented young players on our team that are going to make their names known in the region for the next few years. I am loving the way we are playing, and they’re extremely fun to watch.”
Harlan County returns to action on Tuesday against Whitley County at home starting at 6 p.m.
