The 2025 season for the Harlan County Lady Bears got off to a much better than a year ago when Leslie opened the year with a 3-0 win at HCHS.
Harlan County built a 6-0 lead in this year’s season opener Tuesday and went on to post an 8-3 win over the visiting Lady Eagles.
Aly Sherman pitched five shutout innings before running into trouble in the sixth. She gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits in five-plus innings to earn the win. She struck out 10 and walked five.
Alexis Adams dominated over the final two innings to earn the save as she struck out six and walked none.
“We got a good look at what Aly can bring to the team pitching this year. I thought she pitched a great game,” Harlan County coach Shelby Burton said. “Lexi came in to close, and I liked that we were able to see what she could do coming in cold to pitch. We still have some base running errors to clean up, but overall it was a nice win to start the season.”
Aviya Halcomb led a five-hit attack with two singles. Madison Blair drove in three runs and had a single. Braylen Gilley and Sherman added one single each.
The 1-0 Lady Bears return to action Thursday at home against Knox Central.
