Four Harlan County middle school teams met at Black Mountain Elementary School to compete in the county’s first 3D archery competition. Students from James A. Cawood, Evarts, Rosspoint and Black Mountain all took part shooting on various 3D and 3D cover targets for their first experience taking their bow skills to another level.
After four flights, 63 shooters were ready to see their results from the range. Divisions were split into male and female, and winners also recognized for each type of 3D target, as well as overall top team scores. Team scores are derived from the top 10 best shooters on each team.
Top team with a score of 1,688 was James A. Cawood Elementary, barely knocking off Evarts with a score of 1,686.
Top male for the night was Brody White, of Evarts, with a score of 256.
Top female of the night was Jaiden Brock, of James A. Cawood, with a score of 174.
Monticello Bank’s deer target top male was Skye Farley (231). Top female was Maci Witt (171).
Party Time Inflatables’ antelope target top male was Brody White (256). Top female was Shelby Elliott (129).
Harlan ARH’s coyote target top male was Mason Freeman (194). Top female was Jaiden Brock (174).
Donell’s Pharmacy’s turkey target top male was Easton Lewis (218). The top female was Kayla Brewer (151).
In recognition of their competition, the top 10 male shooters across all targets were as follows — Brody White (256), Mark Sargent (235), Skye Farley (231), Easton Lewis (218), Mason Freeman (194), Ayden Smith (190), Rayce Bryant (179), Cody Farmer (179), Jacob Durham (158) and Carter Burkhart (150).
The top 10 females across all targets for the evening were as follows — Jaiden Brock (174), Maci Witt (171), Kayla Brewer (151), Josie Johnson (138), Shelby Elliott (129), Angel Gross (125), Lacy Lucas (119), Carley LeFevers (117), Hannah Perkins (113) and Destiny Woodard (112).
The county middle school archery league has two more countywide competitions left this season, which will be hosted at James A. Cawood Elementary School. The 15-meter shoot is this Thursday. The county championship competition is March 27 at 4 p.m.
