Harlan County put up a good fight against one of the 13th Region’s top teams before falling 7-2 on Friday.
The Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Lexi Adams walked and courtesy runner Carmen Thomas scored on Aviya Halcomb’s double.
South Laurel pulled even with a run in the third, then scored once in the fourth and two in the third before Emmie Rice hit a three-run blast in the sixth inning to break a school record with her 25th career homer.
Bailey Frazier finished with two hits and a run scored while Morgan Jackson, Kenzie Williams, Ryleigh Bretz, and Skye Lawson each delivered run-scoring hits in the win.
Audrey Likins tossed six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out two batters. Williams pitched a scoreless and hitless inning while striking out three batters.
Adams gave up seven runs (four earned) on six hits while striking out 14 and walking eight.
Halcomb and Adams each had doubles. Aly Sherman and Madison Blair added singles.
“That was a hard fought win against a much-improved Harlan County team,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink told the 13th Region Media Network “Audrey Likins gave us six strong innings and Kenzie was able to close it out for us.
The 1-1 Lady Bears play host to Barbourville on Monday.
