Both on the mound and at the plate, Harlan junior Jake Brewer was a one-man wrecking crew Monday as the Green Dragons routed visiting Pineville 15-0 in first-round action from the 13th Region All “A” Classic.
Brewer gave up only one hit in three-inning game while striking out seven and walking four.
“Jake Brewer threw a great game on the mound for us,” Harlan coach Lee Freyer said. “He located well and stayed ahead in the count. He hit the ball really well tonight also. I’m extremely proud of Jake. He’s a really hard worker. “
With three singles, three runs and three RBI, Brewer also led the Harlan offense. Baylor Varner added a double and single. Jaxson Perry singled twice. Eli Freyer, Jared Moore, Brody Owens and Luke Luttrell added one single each.
“As a team, we hit decent tonight. It was good to see some guys finding barrels. One guy we haven’t talked much about is Jaxson Perry. He is doing a phenomenal job rolling the lineup over for us. He’s seeing the ball really good right now,” Freyer said. “Baylor barreled some balls up tonight. He gets a lot of recognition for his pitching, but he sets the tone for us on offense as well. He had a couple hits for us tonight and stole some bags. Grant Shelton stepped in and caught for us tonight. He is providing some quality depth behind the plate. Every game, I can see his confidence growing. Eli drove the middle of the lineup again, getting three RBI.”
The 3-1 Green Dragons travel to Betsy Layne on Saturday for a doubleheader.
