For a Harlan County team struggling in the opening week of the 2025 season, sophomore right-hander Jesse Gilbert provided just what they needed Tuesday in a 4-2 win at Pike Central.
Gilbert pitched a five-hit complete game, giving up only one earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
DaShaun Smith had a two-run triple and double to lead the HCHS offense. Alex Creech singled twice. Gunnar Burkhart added an RBI double. Aiden Craig and Gilbert had singles.
The 2-5 Black Bears play host to Rockcastle County on Friday.
