Harlan headed west during a week away from school in search of good competition. They found it at the Elizabethtown Spring Break Tournament and left with four losses.
The Dragons opened with a hard-fought 6-4 loss to Fairdale.
Brody Owens led the Dragons on offense with a double and single. Jake Brewer and Jared Moore had two singles each. Jaxson Perry had a double. Chris Rouse added a single.
Eli Freyer suffered the loss as he gave up three runs on four walks and no hits with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Jake Brewer gave up three unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.
Elizabethtown rolled to an 11-1 win over the Dragons. Baylor Varner gave up seven unearned runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in four innings to suffer the loss. Rouse allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk and no strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
Freyer had two singles and Perry had one for the only Harlan hits.
Harlan fell 15-5 to North Hardin. Owens suffered the loss as he gave up eight runs (seven earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 1 1/3 innings. Jared Moore allowed seven runs (five earned) on nine hits with one strikeout and five walks in four innings.
Varner, Owens and Jared Moore each had two hits for Harlan. Freyer, Rouse, Brewer, Perry and Luke Luttrell added one each.
Anderson County rallied for an 11-10 win with three runs in the seventh inning.
Moore led the Dragons with a homer and two singles. Varner and Freyer each pounded out four hits. Perry had a double. Owens, Brewer and Luttrell added singles.
Luttrell started on the mound, giving up six runs (four earned) on five hits with one strikeout and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. Owens allowed two unearned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and four walks in 1 2/3 innings. Perry walked the only batter he faced. Moore suffered the loss as he gave up three runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk in 1 1/3 innings.
The 4-6 Dragons travel to Whitley County on Monday.
