A five-year starter for the Harlan Lady Dragons, Annie Hoskins ended her high school career as one of the school’s all-time volleyball greats. She hopes to continue that level of excellence in college after signing earlier this week with Alice Lloyd.
“When my volleyball high school season ended I wasn’t for sure on if I was going to play in college or not, but something was telling me that I should continue my volleyball career and see how far it takes me so I listened to that voice and it led me to Alice Lloyd,” Hoskins said. “The past five years playing at Harlan have been good to me. I have had multiple bad games but also good games. I have grown over time on the court. My coaches pushed me to my best ability, and that led me to where I am now. I had wonderful teammates that I made friendships with.”
Hoskins was the team’s top player for the past three years, ranking first in blocks (34), kills (206) and aces (69) for last year’s 8-17 squad. She was first in both blocks (58) and kills (117) as a junior and second in aces (27). She was first in blocks (44) and kills (69) and second in aces (28) as a sophomore. She placed second on the team in both blocks and kills in both of her freshman seasons (due to covid).
“Annie was a key player for us at HHS. Her heart and love for the showed in practice and every game. It is going to be hard to replace her as our outside hitter,” Harlan coach Sierra Crow said. “Beyond her skill, Annie was a leader and mentor to the younger players. Alice Lloyd is gaining a great player. I’m sure she will step right in, show them what she is made of and represent Harlan well.”
“I chose Alice Lloyd because I knew that’s where I wanted to go for my elementary education degree and to continue my volleyball career,” Hoskins said. “The people there were so welcoming, and they helped me with everything I needed help with.”
