Vance, Helton lead Bears to win at Barbourville
Andrew Vance pounded out a double and single and Gabriel Helton singled twice to lead Harlan County in a 12-6 win at Barbourville in middle school baseball action Tuesday.
Carter Caldwell and Myles Jenkins each added doubles. Logan Mills had a single.
Caldwell and Vance scattered eight hits as Caldwell struck out four in three innings and Vance fanned seven in three innings.

Vance hit an inside-the-park homer and a added a double as Harlan County won 15-8 on Thursday at Cumberland. Landon Coldiron added a double and two singles. Jackson Mackowiak had a double and single. Caldwell, Logan Mills and Helton added two singles each. Hunter Coker, Bryson Kelly, Win Cooper and Jenkins had one single each.
Helton pitched four innings with two strikeouts. Mackowiak truck out three in two innings.
Nate Harrell led the Redskins with four singles. Tobey Lunsford added a double and two singles. Brycen Saylor singled twice. Hunter Fuson, Brayan Perez and Robbie Johnson had one single each.
Byron Shepherd struck out four in 2 2/3 innings. Saylor struck out three in three innings. Balin Foutch recorded the final out.
Lady Dragons edge Harlan County as Lewis tosses 2-hitter
Harlan edged visiting Harlan County 2-1 in a middle school softball pitchers’ duel Thursday.
Adelynn Lewis struck out nine and walked two as she pitched a two-hitter.
Lewis also had both hits for the Lady Dragons.
Khloe Daniels pitched a two-hitter for Harlan County with six strikeouts and two walks.
Daniels and Kelsie Middleton had hits for the Lady Bears.
