Harlan County’s offensive woes continued Thursday as South Laurel’s Will Alsip pitched a three-hit shutout in the Cardinals’ 5-0 victory.
The 14-5 Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the second inning while adding a run in the fourth inning before adding two insurance runs in the seventh inning.
Jack Vaughn led the Cardinals at the plate with two hits and two runs scored while Waylon Hensley had two hits, and scored once. Bryson Turner and Keaton Creech delivered run-scoring hits while Vince Sizemore and Alsip also had hits.
Carson Clark, a freshman, pitched well in defeat as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with four walks and no strikeouts. Aiden Craig gave up one hit in one shutout inning.
Craig, Jesse Gilbert and Brennan Blevins recorded singles for the Bears.
The 4-10 Black Bears travel to Harlan on Monday.
