Trailing 1-0 going into the fifth inning, the Bell County Lady Cats turned around the game and perhaps their season with a seven-run explosion on the way to a 7-1 win over visiting Harlan County.
It was the first district win of the season in four tries for the 6-10 Lady Cats.
“The girls have been working hard in practice, and it’s rewarding to see that effort pay off on the field,” Bell County coach Kristan Saylor said. “We’re proud to get our first district win, but we know there’s still a lot of work ahead. We’re staying focused and taking it one game at a time.”
Adyson Scott, a sophomore, earned the win in the circle as she gave up one run on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
Kenley Foster led Bell on offense with a triple. Addison Maiden added a double. Scot and Jayda Boateng had singles.
Alexis Adams gave up only four hits over 4 2/3 innings but could not overcome eight walks. She struck out 10. Aly Sherman had one strikeout and one walk as she pitched 1 1/3 innings.
D’Anna Cook led Harlan County on offense with a double and single. Madison Blair singled twice. Aviya Halcomb had a double. Sherman, Halanah Shepherd and Braylen Gilley added one single each.
Harlan County (9-11) plays host to Harlan on Thursday. Bell County is at home against Somerset Christian on Thursday.

Seventh grader Tristan Saylor pounded out four hits with two doubles and two singles in the Lady Cats’ 9-5 loss Monday to Cumberland Gap, Tenn.
Jayda Boateng added two RBI with a double. Madelyn Fuson and Adyson Scott contributed one single each.
Scott pitched a complete game, giving up nine runs (five earned) on 12 hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
The Lady Cats downed Barbourville 5-4 on Thursday. Boateng led Bell with a double. Addison Maiden, Kenley Foster and Scott had singles.
Scott earned the win as she gave up four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
