Harlan County rolled to a 5-0 victory Tuesday over visiting Barbourville in the 13th Region Tournament team competition.
Kalista Dunn, who qualified for the state tournament last week in individual competition, won 6-0, 6-0 in singles on Tuesday. Kaitlyn Daniels won 6-3, 7-5. Riley Witt won by default.
Sophia Day and Natalie Moore won 6-1, 6-0 in doubles. Addison Fields and Alley Stewart won 6-1, 6-3.
Harlan County will advance to the semifinals on Thursday to play the winner of Wednesday’s Clay County-Whitley County match.
North Laurel plays Knox Central in the other bracket with the winner playing Corbin in the semifinals.
“I can’t stress enough how proud of a coach I am,” Harlan County coach Caleb Bailey said. “These kids have had a tremendous year and the results have showed that. They always want to get better and improve the areas of their game they may struggle in. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time Harlan County tennis has won a team tournament match and has advanced to the semifinals. That is something this group can be proud of and always look back on.”
