
Harlan opened its season with a strong showing at a Pine Mountain Golf Conference event on Thursday at the Wasioto Winds Course in Pineville, finishing one stroke behind Clay County in the team competition with a 173.
Senior Baylor Varner and sophomore Caiden Jackson each shot a 41 to tie with Clay County’s Kyran Barnes for medalist honors.
Carson Osborne was only two strokes behind the leaders with a 43, followed by Grant Shelton with a 48 and Eli Freyer and Landon Meyers with scores of 50. Daria Lee was next with a 53, followed by Cooper Thomas with a 54 and Tucker Sullivan with a 57.
Bell County was third with a 186 while the Harlan County junior varsity posted a score of 196.
Hailee Hensley led HCHS with a 47. Julian Simpson was next with a 40, followed by Mason Garrett and Keegan Caudill with identical scores of 50. Noah Ledford had a 54, while Jonah Estep had a 57 and Levi Sergent added a 62.
