
Harlan split a middle school football doubleheader Thursday against visiting Lynn Camp, rolling to a 36-12 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action before suffering a hard-fought 16-14 loss in the seventh- and eighth-grade game.
Kolbi Green ran for four touchdowns in the opening game as the Dragons improved to 5-0.
The Green Dragons grabbed the lead twice in the seventh- and eighth-grade game but Lynn Camp answered each time.
Ryder Lemar put the Dragons ahead with a 3-yard run at the 2:15 mark of the second quarter to cap a long drive. Brayden Clark added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
Bentley Morgan scored on a 12-yard run in the final minute of the half, then added the two-point conversion to tie the game,
Harlan went back on top on the ensuing kickoff as Ryland Rodrigues picked up an onside kick as both teams watched it bounce and went 45 yards for a score and a 14-8 lead at halftime.
Morgan picked up four first downs in a long drive that stretched into the fourth quarter. Morgan then caught the Harlan defense off guard when he found Josh Jody for a 7-yard TD pass with 5:08 left. Morgan ran in the two-point conversion.
Harlan (1-4) drove into Lynn Camp territory on a first-down run by Green around right end to the Lynn Camp 34. The Dragons were close to another first down, but came up inches short a measurement.
The Wildcats were able to run out the final 2:09 for the win.
Harlan will return to action Sept. 27 at home against Perry Central.
