Harlan County’s Cole Cornett earned a spot in the semistate golf tournament next week by finishing in a tie for sixth on Monday at the Region 10 Tournament in London.
Cornett shot a nine-over par 80 to tie with Jackson County’s Jackson Lakes, Pulaski County’s Ben Hampton and Rockcastle County’s Zeke Fain. Rockcastle County’s Brody Hodges won the regional title with an even-park 71, two strokes ahead of Pulaski County’s Luke Ousley. Jackson County’s Eli Summer, Barbourville’s Samuel Collins and Rockastle County’s Conner Ford rounded out the top five.
“I am super proud of how all my kids competed today,” Harlan County coach Brendan Rutherford said. “The course was playing tough and it showed with what scores were like today. Cole was able to fight through the conditions and put up a good score. I’m excited to see what he’s able to do next week for semistate at the Winchester Country Club.”
