Harlan County’s Hailie Hensley and Annie Burton had strong showings Tuesday in the Region 10 Tournament at Somerset. Hensley was 11th in the region with a 105 and is the first alternate for the semistate tournament next week. Burton was 13th with a 112 and is the third alternate.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how much these two have grown,” Harlan County assistant coach Brett Widner said. “Hailie had such a strong senior year, and it hurts that we couldn’t get her through to the state tournament, but the way she’s developed as a golfer at HC has been amazing. Her hard work has paid off and the improvements she’s made are something special to see. And then there’s Annie — just four months ago she wasn’t even playing golf, and now as a seventh grader she comes out in her first region tournament and has a huge debut. She’s got so much natural talent, and I know this is just the beginning for her.”
Harlan’s Daria Lee also competed in the regional.
North Laurel won the team title with Corbin placing second. South Laurel’s Alyssa Siler won the individual title with Corbin’s Makenna Myatt second.
