Lynn Camp broke a five-game losing streak against Harlan and a 23-game losing streak against District 7 opponents with a 34-6 win Friday over the visiting Green Dragons.
Senior tailback D.J. Wren, one of the state’s leading rushers, scored two touchdowns as the Wildcats improved to 5-3.
“I’m very proud of the kids tonight,” Lynn Camp coach Darrell Hendrix told the 13th Region Media Network. “We’ve had a ton of injuries and only had 14 kids dressed. Everyone stepped up and play hard. We gotta get some guys healthy this and get ready for the next one.”
Christian Mabe teamed with Jamie Gregory for a 30-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring in the first quarter, Wren’s two-point conversion gave the Wildcats an 8-0 lead.
Braylon Humfleet broke free for a 37-yard touchdown run in the second quarter followed by another Mabe conversion for a 16-0 lead.
Landon Kirby put the Dragons on the board with a 3-yard run later in the first half, cutting the deficit to 16-6.
Wren ran 21 yards to close the scoring in the first half.
Wren scored on a 42-yard run and Mabe added a 16-yard run, both in the third quarter.
Boss Bryson again led the Harlan offense with 112 yards on 27 carries. The Dragons had 120 yards on the ground and zero through the air on three attempts.
The Dragons have been held to one touchdown or less in all seven losses this season.
Harlan (1-7) plays host to Williamsburg on Friday and closes its regular season schedule on Oct. 31 against East Ridge. Lynn Camp (5-3) plays host to Pineville on Friday to determine third place in District 7.
