Thompson, Abner lead Lions past Harlan

Pineville guard Sawyer Thompson, who worked around Harlan’s Dylan Cox, scored 23 points in a 63-38 win Monday.

Sawyer Thompson and Dylan Abner provided an impressive 1-2 punch on offense, teaming for 39 points as visiting Pineville pulled away in the third quarter for a 63-38 win at Harlan on Monday in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.
Thompson scored 23 points and Abner added 16 to lead the 3-1 Mountain Lions.
Nate Montanaro and Dylan Cox led the 1-3 Dragons with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Landon Myers and Eli Freyer each scored nine points to lead Harlan in a 24-19 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action.
Dalton Abner paced the Mountain Lions with nine points.
Pineville won 26-13 in third- and fourth-grade action as Braxton Ferguson led the Lions with 14 points.
Cooper Thomas scored nine to pace the Dragons.

Pineville suffered its first loss of the season in seventh- and eighth-grade action by falling 55-51 to Clay County last week.
Thompson led the Lions with 35 points, followed by Asthon Moser with 13, Abner with two and Joseph Brigmon with one.
The Lions rolled to a 61-28 win over Middlesboro as Moser scored 21 and Thompson added 13. Ben Matthews tossed in seven, followed by Brigmon and Abner with six each, Andrew Howard with four and Kaiden Robbins with two.
