Commodores no match for GRC in first-round game from Sweet Sixteen

LEXINGTON — Leading by only four points after one quarter, George Rogers Clark took control in the second period and coasted to a 77-36 win Wednesday over Perry Central In a first-round game from the state tournament at Rupp Arena.
Junior guards Jerone Morton and Sam Parrish scored 22 and 20 points to lead the Cardinals, who improved to 34-1. Trent Edwards, a 6-7 junior center added 13 points and four blocks while causing problems for the Commodores around the basket with his length.
“We played an awful good basketball team tonight,” Perry Central coach Shannon Hoskins said. “We played pretty well the first quarter, but then they sped us up and got into their game. We were in trouble from that point on.”
Senior center Lance McKenzie scored 10 points to lead the 29-5 Commodores. Junior guard Tyler Day added nine points.
