HCHS splits against Whitley County in tennis action
May 6, 2022
The Harlan County tennis team split against Whitley County earlier in the week, rolling to a 9-0 win in girls action and losing 6-3 in the boys match.
“It was a very good showing by our girls squad today,” HCHS coach Caleb Bailey said. “We’re sitting pretty good on the girls squad. The improvements from the beginning of the year until now can definitely be seen. We have what it takes to make a run in the regional tournament and have some players make state if everything sets up correctly and players continue to buy into the system. If we liimit unforced errors and we can compete with anyone.
“Our boys squad is young and we are competing and getting points on teams with a whole lot more experience. Boys can end the season even on wins and losses if we play these next few right. We have three straight against tough squads and a l lot of close matches that could be flipped either way, but just went opposite of our column. We have to limit unforced errors, but I’m proud of our squads. We’ve grown a whole lot since the first practice and I’m so proud of our student athletes.”
The HCHS tennis teams play Pineville on Monday at home and close the regular season Thursday at home against Williamsburg.
