John Bond was a member of the last senior class at Benham High School in 1961. He went on to the University of Kentucky and then returned home to Harlan County to teach and coach at Cumberland High School until it closed in 2008. He now works with the Gear Up program in the Harlan County School District. He was also a Hall of Fame girls basketball coach at Cumberland, leading the Lady Skins to the first two All "A" Classic state titles in 1991 and 1992 and also to a pair of 13th Region Tournament titles in 1984 and 1986. His 492 coaching victories place him among the all-time leaders in Kentucky history.
