Dragons knock off 15th Region’s top team by rallying for victory at Pikeville

Harlan guard Kyler McLendon put up a shot over a Pikeville defender on Monday. McLendon scored 15 points in the Dragons’ 73-61 victory.

Two days after conquering the 14th Region with victories over that region’s top three teams in the WYMT Mountain Classic, the Harlan Green Dragons could have spent some time basking in their success.
Instead, the Dragons went in search of even bigger game.
They found it in Pikeville, and brought back another prize against the 15th Region’s top team and the defending All “A” Classic state champs with a 73-61 victory.
Trailing by two entering the fourth quarter, Harlan outscored the Panthers 24-13 with the help of two 3-pointers each by Kaleb McLendon and Dylan Cox.
The 6-0 Dragons were led by the McLendon brothers’ 32 points as Kaleb scored 17 and Kyler added 15. Jaedyn Gist tossed in 12. Will Austin and Cox scored nine each.
Harlan returns to action Friday at Middlesboro in a girls/boys district doubleader.

The Dragons suffered a 43-42 loss in junior varsity action as E,B, Walters led Pikeville with 10 points,.
Connor Daniels and Dylan Cox led Harlan with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Nate Montanaro scored six, followed by Matthew Pennington with four and Jake Brewer and Hunter Clem with two each.
