Fast start sends Bears to win in opening-round of Gatlinburg tourney

Harlan County took control early on the way to a 61-45 win on Wednesday over Soddy Daisy, Tenn., in the opening round of the Smoky Mountain Winter Classic at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.
Junior guard Trent Noah scored 20 points and senior guard Daniel Carmical added 18 to lead the 8-3 Black Bears, who raced to a 19-5 lead after one quarter. The Black Bears led 37-16 at halftime and 54-26 after three quarters.
Shaun Pangle scored 17 points to lead Soddy Daisy.
Harlan County will play Sardis, Ala., in the semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m.
