Lady Bears take control in third quarter in win at Hazard

Harlan County senior Jaylin Smith, pictured in action earlier this season, scored 20 points in the Lady Bears’ 76-60 win at Hazard on Thursday.

Down 35-34 at halftime, the Harlan County Lady Bears exploded for 27 points in the third quarter on the way to a 76-60 win Thursday at Hazard.
Junior guard Ella Karst scored 24 points and senior forward Jaylin Smith added 20 as the Lady Bears improved to 11-4 on the season.
Senior guard Abby Maggard paced the 7-6 Lady Bulldogs with 25 points. Laura Everole added 15.
Smith scored nine points in the decisive third quarter, while Taytum Griffin added seven and Karst tossed in five as HCHS built a 61-47 lead with the help of five 3-pointers in the period.
Harlan County returns to action Monday at Lynn Camp. Hazard will play Lee County on Jan. 9 in the 14th Region All “A” Classic.
